These products can help patients reinvigorate their homecare routine by offering oral health benefits on the go.

Xylitol can help improve your dental health in somany ways! It's notonlybeneficialfor adults, but also for kids, babies, and even pregnant women. Whether you're looking tonaturally whiten your teeth, strengthen your teeth, reduce cavities, eliminate bad breath, or just toimprove your overalldental health, Xylitol has many benefits

Xylitol is found in strawberries, plums, mushrooms, corn, straw, seed hulls, nutshells and birch wood. Small amounts are even made by your own body when you metabolize glucose.

Xylitol is NOT like other artificial sweeteners. Other artificialsweeteners can be harmful to both your teeth and your bodyXylitol was discovered during the 1940s:

Many gums contain only trace amounts of xylitol but not enough for tooth proection.

THE PROTECTIVE AMOUNT OF XYLITOL IS AROUND 6 TO 10 PIECES OF
1 GRAM/PIECE.

The Cost of the Daily Dose of Xylitol is widely different for different Brands

SUGGESTED XYLITOL DOSING FOR ADULTS:

Xylitol's anti-cavity protection is created by way of the effect it has on the bacteria that live in dental plaque. Related to this fact, researchers have found that xylitol produces its maximum benefit when its consumption is divided into multiple doses spread throughout the day, so to maximize the total amount of time the bacteria are exposed to it.

While no formal recommendation for xylitol dosing exists, from research such as that referenced on this page, conclusions can be drawn. For an adult, the following regimen would seem to be reasonable and one expected to produce an optimal anti-cavity effect.

Six to ten grams per day.

Divided up into three to five doses throughout the day.

This regimen needs to be continued for six months to a year before it can be assumed that an optimal level of cavity protection has been created.

FOR SMALL CHILDREN

For small children, it seems that the consumption of xylitol in the neighborhood of 5 grams per day (divided up into three to five doses spread throughout the day) would be appropriate.

Be wary when you see the big guys advertise xylitol – they like to promote that a little goes a long way. We don’t disagree – with anything but their murky definition of “little.” They should say “miniscule,” or “barely any,” or “you should really just chew Epic.”

Xylitol has extraordinary dental benefits.

Xylitol comes from the fibers of fruits and vegetables and from birch trees.

Pure Xylitol looks and almost tastes like sugar (sucrose) but with 40% fewer calories

Xylitol is found in strawberries, plums, mushrooms, corn, straw, seed hulls, nutshells and birch wood. Small amounts are even made by your own body when you metabolize glucose.

Xylitol is NOT like other artificial sweeteners. Other artificialsweeteners can be harmful to both your teeth and your body.

Chewing a couple of pieces of xylitol chewing gum after each meal could reduce the amount of tooth decay you or your family experiences.

We all have dental plaque forming on our teeth daily.  Tooth brushing will remove it.

But sometimes it would be very convenient to chew gum as alternative oral hygiene.

WHAT IS XYLITOL?

Xylitol tastes sweet but, unlike sugar, it is not converted in the mouth to acids that cause tooth decay. It reduces levels of decay-causing bacteria in saliva and also acts against some bacteria that cause ear infections

CAVITIES ARE CATCHING

There are only a few strains of plaque bacteria that cause tooth decay and stick to teeth.  And research has found that Xylitol sweetener helps eliminate those harmful bacteria.

Few people realize that tooth decay bacteria are like an infection transmissible from one person to another.  During the first few months that we begin to get our Baby Teeth   we all catch the decay bacteria from our primary caregivers.

GUM CHEWING MOMS REDUCE THEIR KIDS CAVITES

But, if the primary caregiver starts chewing the Xylitol gum before the baby has had any new teeth erupt (around three months after the birth) and continues for 18 months there will be a drastically reduced transfer of decay-causing-bacteria to the baby.

When the baby teeth first come into the mouth they are perfectly clean.

But then the tooth surfaces develop a plaque layer composed of the different types of mouth bacteria.

If there are no decay-causing bacteria around when this first plaque develops, later, they will have a harder time sticking onto the tooth surface,-they will be Crowded-Out.

And the fewer decay-causing bacteria present won't be able to cause cavities as easily.

Children, whose mothers used the xylitol gum  had 70% less decay!

There was 70% less decay in the children –but the children didn’t chew the gum- Mom did!

MILITARY CAMPAIGN AGAINST TOOTH DECAY

The US military includes two pieces of xylitol gum in every prepackaged MRE (Meals-Ready-To-Eat) that are eaten in field situations.  Chewing the special gum helps protect soldiers teeth by making their dental plaque less adherent to their teeth and changing their plaque.Meals Ready to Eat

Chewing for 5 minutes is recommended, because that is when the concentration of xylitol in the saliva is greatest.

If the service member is in a field environment where only MREs are served, then 3 MREs daily with 2 xylitol chewing gum pellets per MRE would represent the minimum recommended 3 times a day.

This amount is equivalent to the recommended dosage of 5-10 grams of xylitol per day. (The maximum is 2 pieces 5 times a day.)

The only known side effect is Mild Diarrhea at much higher doses than needed to achieve tooth protection.Troops Enjoying MRE's

What is the “Dose” of  chewing gum that was used in these studies?

Not all
Xylitol chewing gums
are equal.
Epic, for instance has over 5 times the Xylitol Content of TRIDENT.
