Honor Flight honors the Greatest Generation
Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 12:34PM I recently had a fascinating conversation over dinner with my friend, Angela Dettwiller, Springfield, Ohio, Art educator, union treasurer, and animal lover.
She revealed she had made twelve trips to Washington, D.C. last year.
I was even more intrigued when she included the fact that while she had made the dozen trips, none had included an overnight stay.
Each of the one day trips had been to escort a different World War II veteran to visit the National World War II Memorial which honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the U.S., the more than 400,000 who died, and all who supported the war effort from home.

Angela has performed a wonderful service for these members of the Greatest Generation to whom we all owe a debt of thanks our Freedom. But, signally, Angela has given of her time and treasure to actualize her gratitude by performing this service for the diminishing ranks of World War II Heroes.
Brava! Angela!

This is a modest but perfect way for all of us to express our gratitude to those who fought to give us the gift of our freedom.

| MISSION STATEMENT: | Transport America's veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices. |
|---|---|
| GOAL: | Helping every single veteran in America, willing and able of getting on a plane or a bus, visit THEIR memorial. |
| PRIORITY: | Top priority is given to America's most senior heroes — survivors of World War II and any veteran with a terminal illness who wishes to visit THEIR memorial. The program will naturally transition to Korean War, Vietnam War and all other veterans who served, on a chronological basis. |
| PHILOSOPHY: | Since America felt it was important to build a memorial to the service and the ultimate sacrifice of her veterans, the Honor Flight Network believes it's equally important that they actually get to visit and experience THEIR memorial. |
| MOTTO: | “We can’t all be heroes. Some of us have to stand on the curb and clap as they go by.” - Will Rogers |
Time is of the Essence.
Based on recent 2008 statistics, we are losing World War II veterans at the rate of approximately 1,000 per day. Honor Flight Network will continue do whatever it takes to fulfill the dreams of our veterans and help our senior heroes travel absolutely free.
Subsequent to the World War II veterans, our efforts will then focus on our Korean War and then Vietnam War veterans, honoring them similarly.
