One of the organization-types that is emerging for managing doctors and healthcare delivery is the Accountable Care Organization. (ACO's)
Accountable Care Organizations will be the primary conduit for paying doctors for their services. Independent solo practitioners will no longer be reimbursed by insurance companies or Medicaid or Medicare.
This will permit most doctors to be employees of an ACO, if they continue to practice medicine.
ACO's are hoped to be the vehicle that will permit rational management of Doctors, what they can prescribe and hospital admissions.
Dental Care outside of hospitals has not yet been included in ACO's.
Dayton already has one group of physicians that has begun to qualify as an ACO, PRIMED Physicians.
