CRAZE LINES IN TEETH - NOT TO WORRY

DO YOU NOTICE THOSE DARK LINES ON YOUR FRONT TEETH?

Many people are alarmed to discover thin black lines have developed in the enamel of their teeth. These lines slowly form over a long time, only to be discovered when the teeth are observed very closely.

At Yellow Springs Dental Care, we call these little fractures- Craze Lines.

SHALLOW FRACTURE IN ENAMEL= CRAZE LINE

They are are shallow fractures confined only to the outside layer of enamel and do not extend deeper into the sensitive dentin layer of the tooth.

WHAT ARE CRAZE LINES

To understand CRAZING better consider the effect artists create in porcelain sinks. The body of the sink is completely intact and no cracks permit water leakage. However, on the thin glazed surface they simulate an artistic aged effect by crazing the glaze.

HOW DO TEETH BECOME CRAZED?

Teeth are covered in ENAMEL. The deeper layer is called DENTIN. Teeth expand and contract when hot and cold foods and liquids are in the mouth.

For instance if you take a spoonful of ice cream and then immediately sip from a cup of hot coffee, the change in temperature causes your teeth to change size.

But the enamel doesn’t change size the same amount as the dentin does.

This causes FRACTURES (craze lines) to appear in the enamel surface but does not damage the dentin interior of the tooth.

Rarely, these areas do get larger and permit food particles to catch and tooth decay starts.

BUT, let's face it they spoil the appearance of your smile.

CAN CRAZE LINES BE FIXED?

Craze Lines multiply as we age.
The shallow enamel fractures become gathering spots for stains and the dark lines spread across the tooth.

Basically, there are 3 ways to improve the appearance of the CRAZE LINES:

Bleach the teeth
Fill and cover the fractures with white composite filling material, or
Cover the front of the teeth with porcelain veneers- which are exquisitely thin layers of un-blemished porcelain

MEDICAID HAS BEST DENTAL INSURANCE

For some people, Medicaid is the best dental insurance that is available.

You simply cannot buy dental insurance that offers better coverage than does the Ohio Medicaid Program and CareSource programs.

When dental insurance first became generally available over forty years ago, the annual benefit limit was usually about $1000.

A thousand dollars covered much more dental treatment in 1960 than it does in 2013! But those limits on benefits haven't increased to keep up with the cost of living.

Most Medicaid recipients have not had dental care access for a long time and require a lot of fillings, extractions, dentures and root canal treatment.

Employed Folks Can Get Medicaid Too

The Ohio Department of Development has cooperated with many companies to shift the cost of Medical and Dental Care for their employees to the Medicaid Program.

Of course the coming activation of ObamaCare Affordable Care Act in 2014 is planned to change health care to afford care for everyone in the USA. This may be viewed as just one of the many extensions of Health Insurance For All.

The Department of Development has granted these benefits in exchange for such job-growth deals as: headquarter relocations and expansions in an effort to ensure companies grow, thrive and create jobs in Ohio. Job-creation deals take into account the number of full-time jobs being created, the average hourly wage, and the investment being made by the company.

Idiots, thugs and morons act out violence

Television and movie dramatic depictions of violence can spark the imagination of suggestible people to re-enact what they have seen on the screens.

As a professional school school student, I vividly remember the week when Richard Chamberlain starred in the series "Shogun" in which Japanese samurai ran around chopping one another with samurai swords. I was on the head and neck-surgery service at that time, and during the week "Shogun" was running we saw five machete chops to the head and neck.

I never saw one before nor during the remainder of the rotation. In the subsequent years of a surgical career answering frequent calls to the ER, I have carefully observed the relationship of public media displays of violence to the incidence of copy-cat mayhem --I am confident that I can predict who will be stimulated by theatrical violence to become violent themselves: Idiots, thugs and morons will act out violence. The rest of us, not so much.

OHIO MEDICAID ELIGIBILITY EASED

OHIO MEDICAID PROGRAM EXPANDED

Governor Kascich moved to accept the expansion of the Ohio Medicaid Program financed by the Affordable Care Act commonly referred to as “ObamaCare”.

This will offer and pay for healthcare for more Ohioans in the coming years as well as make eligibility for Medicaid easier with higher family income permitted for participants.
