In the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY, Jay Parkinson is an innovative physician who is attempting to remedy health care from the bottom up.
Jay doesn't have an office--he makes house calls to minister to his patients. I would liken his efforts to a cross between a health entrepreneur and a 21st century "barefoot doctor"
He has created a virtual medical office using the Internet and a lot of leg work.
Jay knows where to get a bargain price for pharmaceuticals and has negotiated bottom dollar deals for his patients who need CAT scans and complex lab procedures. He has walked into hudreds of drug stores and cut special pricing for his patients--then refers his patients.
Jay likes to go to cutting edge health policy conferences, so I don't know how long it will be until he is overseeing a lot of other new-graduate MDs that he has cloned in the image of his experiment in Brooklyn.
Dare I say it... Jay is a market-driven solution to the health care problem in the USA--Let a Hundred Flowers Bloom.
