We're pleased that you are interested in becoming a patient at the University of Florida College of Dentistry. This page was prepared to acquaint you with the procedures and policies related to patient care and the benefits to you as a prospective patient. Please read this information carefully.

This is essentially an "in house" private practice where full-time University of Florida College of Dentistry residents treat patients. Because of high demand, our clinic accepts patients on a limited basis. We accept new patients as treatment of existing patients is completed. All types of general and specialty treatment are available. Fees are approximately 30% less than a private practice.

Emergency care is available to anyone needing relief from pain. We see the first eight patients at our door at 7:30 a.m. The wait could exceed several hours, so please be prepared. We make very effort to see our patients in a timely manner. Our emergency clinic offers extractions, initiation of root canal therapy, temporary fillings, and other relief of pain procedures only. There is a minimum fee of $141 expected prior to treatment.

Directions

From Tampa International Airport and the North (Approximately 30 Minutes)

• Exit airport and follow signs to I-275 South to St. Petersburg.
• Proceed on I-275 south across the Howard Frankland Bridge.
• Merge onto ULMERTON RD / FL-688 W via EXIT 31B toward LARGO.
• Follow approximately 8 miles.
• Turn LEFT onto 113TH ST N.
• Travel approximately 2.5 miles.
• The clinic will be on your right on the St. Petersburg College University Partnership Campus.

From the South

• Take I-275N to St. Petersburg and proceed to Exit 28 Pinellas Park/Gandy Blvd.
• Keep to the left and proceed west turning left onto Gandy Blvd N.
• Gandy becomes Park Blvd N.
• Follow Park Blvd for about 7 miles.
• Turn right onto 113th St. N.
• Head north about 1.5 miles.
• The clinic is on the left situated within the SPC University Partnership Campus.

How to Become a Patient

To be considered for treatment in the resident clinics, call 727.394.6064 and request a screening appointment. There is a brief examination by a faculty member to determine if the patient's needs are compatible with educational needs. All fees are due at the time service is provided.

Once the screening examination is completed, we enter the patient's treatment needs into our computerized file. An appropriate resident, if available, is assigned to care for that patient. Once the assignment is made, we will contact the patient and arrange for an appointment to develop a detailed treatment plan and begin treatment. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that all patients awaiting assignment will in fact be assigned.

Insurance

Insurance is not accepted.

As a prospective patient, you have the right to considerate, respectful and confidential treatment regardless of race, national origin, religion, sexual orientation or physical handicap. If assigned to a student for treatment, you have the right to a thorough dental examination, a review of your medical history, and a complete explanation of treatment options. If you have a disability, such as sight or hearing impairment, or require wheelchair assistance, please call 727.394.6064. Every effort will be made to assist you during your dental treatment.

 Dental health event planned for children

PINELLAS COUNTY – Dental screenings and X-rays for Pinellas County’s annual Give Kids a Smile children’s dental health event will take place on Friday, Feb. 6.

This year, the Pinellas County Dental Association hopes to screen and treat more than 500 children in Pinellas County who otherwise would not receive dental care. In 2008, 470 Pinellas County children received more than $134,000 in free dental services.

Offered for children aged 3 to 18, Give Kids a Smile is sponsored by the American Dental Association and at the state level by the Florida Dental Association. The Pinellas County Dental Association joined the crusade to highlight the need for improved dental care for children of low-income families.

Children who need follow-up may return for any needed care on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 20 and 21. 

Children with dental insurance are not eligible for this event. Parents or guardians will need to complete and sign paperwork to authorize treatment and must provide transportation for children to the clinic assigned.
