Patient Care

New patients who are examined in the Screening Clinic are classified as to dental needs and suitability for the teaching program. Patients screened acceptable are placed in the patient pool for admission into the treatment program. When a patient becomes available that matches the student's needs, the patient is assigned to a student for comprehensive dental care.

Patient records are kept for four months and if during that time the record is not assigned to a student, the patient is notified by mail that their dental work cannot be done in the student teaching program.

The College of Dentistry cannot guarantee assignment to a student.

Location & Parking

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Dentistry is located at 875 Union Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38163 about two blocks west of the intersection of Pauline and Union on the South side of Union Avenue.

Parking is available south of the building. The lot is supervisered by an attendant and the fees are reasonable.

If the building lot is full, two All Right Parking Lots are available, one east behind McDonalds and the other to the west next to Office Depot.

Emergency Care

We do have an emergency clinic for people who have not been assigned a student doctor. This clinic is to relieve pain. It operates Monday through Friday. You should call 448-6211 for the hours of operation. For children up to age 13, call 448-6206.

If we do care for you in the emergency clinic, it does not mean you are an accepted patient at the dental college. If you want more dental care, it will be necessary that you go through the patient screening and acceptance program. Call 448-6220 for new patient information.

Patients with a student assigned for their care will work with their student if they have an emergency.
